Flashcards
quizlet.com/_6a36ih?x=1jqt&i=1b4opr Our current unit of study, Living Systems begins with the study of cells. We will be spending the first several classes examining the parts of animal and plant cells and comparing and contrasting the two. 5.5 The student will investigate and understand that organisms are made of one or more cells and have distinguishing characteristics that play a vital role in the organism’s ability to survive and thrive in its environment. Key concepts include a) basic cell structures and functions; (Cell membrane, nucleus, vacuoles, cytoplasm plus cell wall and chloroplasts for plants) b) classification of organisms using physical characteristics, body structures, and behavior of the organism; and c) traits of organisms that allow them to survive in their environment. We began the unit by discussing Cell Theory and how biologists (and all scientists) build on each others' ideas. The class enjoyed the video so much I decided to post it here.
Our current unit of study is matter. We will spend the next couple of weeks reviewing phases of matter (solid, liquid, gas), distinguishing between an atom, element, molecule, and compound, learning about the Periodic Table of Elements, and investigate mixtures and compounds. Attached is a study guide, which has also been sent home, as well as a link to the Quizlet vocabulary words. Remember that your Science Notebook is your best study tool, assuming you have completed it accurately and neatly.

We will not test on this until second quarter.
Last week we began investigating sound. Some of the questions we are looking for answers to are: What is sound? How does sound travel? Through which medium does sound travel best? Below you will find the Sound Unit Vocabulary. Students should be bringing these terms home nightly to review. Quizlet Sound Vocabulary Link: quizlet.com/_5fbluy

At the end of last school year, fourth grade teachers highly recommended to students that they save their Science notebooks t help them review those standards. Please also find, attached below, a "Refrigerator Review" for fourth grade standards, which will also help students with homework related to fourth grade science content.
