Students will receive review Math and Science homework for the entire week each Monday. Unless otherwise directed, homework is to be completed nightly and returned to school each day. We check it together and then I collect it on Friday. Most of the time, Quizzes will be announced at least a week ahead of time. In rare cases, quizzes may be given with as little as three days notice. Students should begin to bring home their Math and Science Interactive Notebooks nightly to review content taught that day or previously.
Students are also expected to read for 20-30 minutes each night. No parent signature or log is required. Here are some helpful hints to manage homework and studying for tests:
Nightly homework officially begins this week. A reminder that students should be charging their device each night as part of their required homework. There have been a few cases of run down batteries first thing in the morning. Homework this week is fourth grade review. Attached you will find the math and homework as well as the 5.1 vocabulary that will be on the science quiz on Wednesday. We have been working with this vocabulary for two weeks and students should be bringing it home nightly to review.
Some ideas for studying:
Due Friday, September 13th Last week, 5th grade students were visited by LCSO Deputy Mickens. Deputy Mickens is new to our school. He is also the LCSO for RBMS, so the kids will continue to see him at River Bend next year. He spoke to the kids about the DARE calendar poster contest. I have attached the guidelines below. This is last year's form because we didn't get new ones. Only the due date is different. PLEASE do not let your child use paper larger than 8 1/2" by 11", or their work will be chopped off. I can provide students with additional paper if needed.
We are back on track with homework. This week Math will be completed daily as usual. Science is fourth grade review of previously released SOL questions. Please remember that you have access to the 4th grade Science text book on the Science blog page. Science is due on Friday but I recommend that you make a plan to complete a few questions each night. There will be reading homework on either Wednesday or Thursday as well.
Life Science Test- Friday 4/5 Students will have a science test this Thursday. Study guides were sent home at the beginning of the cells and organisms unit and can be found on the Science blog page. On the test, the kids will be expected to be able to differentiate between vertebrate and invertebrate animals and vascular and nonvascular plants, and identify examples of each and identify examples of each. In addition, they will need to understand the adaptations organisms use to survive. Homework
There will be no science homework this week. Students have math each night and a Figurative Language Reading Passage due at the end of the week.
Science homework this week is a reading passage and review questions on a fourth grade standard Force and Motion. It is due in completion on Friday. I suggested that students break it apart into the following: Mon.-Read the passage and highlight key information, Tues.- Reread the passage and complete the Word Bank section, Wed. -Reread the passage and answer the questions, Thurs.-Reread the passage and complete the Crossword.
This week students have a Quiz on Order of Operations, or PEMDAS, on Wednesday, 3/13. They also have a quiz in Science on Cell parts and all 5.5 Vocabulary on Friday, 3/15. Students have flashcards, diagrams and foldables in their notebooks and Quizlet flashcards to help them study.
